Aromatherapy & Reflexology

I'll talk today about Aromatherapy & Reflexology as they are really effective in human life (aslo coz I use aromatherapy candels with some oils too and I really adore them) .The use of aromatherapy or reflexology can be seen as part of a lifestyle choice - a lifestyle that allows for pleasure because a moment of pleasure is healing..

Aromatherapy is derived from two words. Aroma- meaning fragrance or smell and Therapy- meaning treatment. Aromatherapy was used by the most ancient civilizations and is reputed to be at least 6000 years old. It is widely thought that Aromatherapy began in Egypt. A medical papyri considered to date back to around 1555 BC contains remedies for all types of illnesses and the methods of application are similar to the ones used in Aromatherapy and Herbal medicine today. Aromatherapy, in alternative medicine, the therapeutic use of essential oils extracted from plants or trees. Essential oils give a plant its fragrance and have been known throughout history for their healing effects on body and mind.. Aromatherapy is considered particularly useful for skin problems, including wounds and burns; respiratory problems such as colds, coughs, and sinusitis; the pain of muscular aches, arthritis, rheumatism, headaches, and migraine; and stress-related conditions such as insomnia, anxiety, and depression. In some European hospitals, aromatherapy is used to relieve pain and stress, essential oils are applied to wounds to combat infection, and vaporized essential oils are sprayed to prevent the spread of airborne infection..When used in massage and bathing, essential oils are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. When inhaled, the oil molecules stimulate scent receptors in the brain that, in turn, trigger a response in the part of the brain that influences heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance.

There are three ways essential oils enter to the body

Through smell

This is the most effective method of introducing the balance and holistic scents from nature into the human body. The message of essential oils is carried through nose to the central nervous system to our glands which control our body functions. You can smell scents from the baths, diffuser, humidifiers, hot tubs, steams, perfumes, on a hanky or pillow, or from aromatherapy candle and aromatherapy incense sticks. Inhaling the appropriate fragrant can relieve stress, lift depression, soothe your soul as well as give more energy.

Through skin

The most popular aroma therapists suggested method is massage which have been practiced across cultures for centuries. A good quality carrier oil, lotion, cream is used to deliver the essential oils to the area needed. The molecular structure of the essential oils is so small that takes about half an hour to enter through the skin and enter the blood steam.

Through ingesting

Herbal foods contain fresh aroma scents from nature can be delivered to the body in form of herbs and spice, nuts, fresh fruits, vegetable and flowers. Many Asian ingredients in the curry that carry natural herbs which has the property of Ayurvedic medicinal recipes. Try some Thai or Chinese dishes that combined various herbs and spice for different taste to stimulate circulation and replenishing spent energy. Herbal teas are also popularly used to improve health from the inside to the outside.

Reflexology in alternative medicine, a healing system in which specific points on the feet or hands, known as reflex points, are manipulated to bring about changes in other parts of the body. These reflex points are believed to correspond to every major organ, gland, and area of the body. In 1913 Dr. William Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose and throat surgeon, introduced this therapy to the West.  He noted that pressure on specific parts of the body could have an anaesthetizing effect on a related area.  Developing this theory, he divided the body into ten equal and vertical zones, ending in the fingers and tows.  He concluded that pressure on one part of a zone could affect everything else within that zone.  Thus, reflex areas on the feet and hands are linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium and encourage healing, by clearing the blockages..

A Reflexologist uses hands, and sometimes other tools, to apply gentle pressure to the feet, head and hands to release and clear the blockages.  For each person the application and the effect of the therapy is unique.  Sensitive, trained hands, can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet, and by working on these points the reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body.  Tensions are eased, and circulation and elimination is improved.  This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself at its own pace, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse..
Since reflexology treats the cause of the illness in the whole person, not just the symptoms of disease, most people benefit from treatment.  This therapy brings relief to a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, and it is suitable for all ages.  Once your body is in-tune, (balanced), it is wise to have regular treatments in order to help maintain health and well-being. You can also learn to do the work for yourself (Who better to take care of you?)
Usually a treatment session lasts for about, 30 minutes to 1 hour.  A course of treatment varies in length depending on your body’s needs. Your body may respond in a very definite way: you may have a feeling of wellbeing and relaxation; or you may feel lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is transitory.
